OSIER WORK PARTY

The Wakering and District Natural History Society maintain the osiers at the edge of Wakering Common. Each year we cut back every 3rd osier so that there is some fresh new growth and the osiers never get too old and woody. The working party in 2009 consisted of nine members.

You can see from the photograph, taken by Tamsin Butler, that it turned out to be a glorious morning yet an hour before our arrival it was pouring with rain. At the end of the job, we were treated to a welcome cup of coffee and Kit Kat by Gill. We all went home quite pleased with our efforts since we had completed the work in record time of one hour.

The Workers

The osiers are left at the edge of the Common for a few weeks so that anyone that wants to help themselves to pea sticks etc. have the chance to do so.
